Wing Commander S C Gupta obtained B.E degree in Aeronautics with honours from Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh. He holds the post-graduate degree in Aeronautics from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. He has served in a fighter training wing and in the AN-12 aircraft Squadron. He taught at the Air Force Technical College, Bangalore and at the Institute of Armament Technology, Pune. He worked on defence research projects related to military aircraft at the Aeronautical Development Establishment. Presently, he is deputed to the Centre for Military Airworthiness and Certification, Bangalore.

Wing Commander Gupta has developed several computer programs for the design of combat aircraft. He has worked on theoretical and computational aerodynamics, numerical optimization, potential flow model enhancement, fighter aircraft design, parallel computer architecture characterisation, stability, control and simulation. He is presently engaged with control laws specifications, aerodata set description, flying qualities airworthiness assessment and flight envelops qualifications.
