Many foreign invaders of India in ancient times who successfully established politically in India, gradually got assimilated into the Hindu fold, but the Muslims who conquered India in the medieval period ruled India with a feeling that theirs was a unique religion and culture. Although the Muslims won over India militarily, emotionally and ideologically they remained separate. As a consequence there were conflicts between the Muslims and the Hindus. However, in due course of time, the conflict, animosity between them was replaced by a spirit of mutual understanding, cooperation, communal good will and unity.
