Sovereignty, as we have seen in the Previous unit, is one of the constituent elements of the state. It is in fact, the most fundamental characteristic which distinguishes the state from all other human institutions. As a matter fact, we cannot conceive of a state without a
sovereignty. The State alone is legally sovereign and absolute. Hence, sovereignty is essentially a juristic concept implying final and unlimited legal power. With this introduction, we shall proceed to discuss the meaning, nature, characteristic and kinds of sovereignty in the following sections.
