Hydrology means the science of water. It is the science that deals with the occurrence, circulation and distribution of water of the earth and earth's atmosphere. As a branch of earth science, it is concerned with the water in streams and lakes, rainfall and snowfall, snow and ice on the land and water occurring below the earth's surface in the pores of the soil and rocks. In a general sense, hydrology is a very broad subject of an inter-disciplinary nature drawing support from allied sciences, such as meteorology, geology, statistics, chemistry, physics and fluid mechanics. Hydrology is the science that studies the Earth's water molecules and their movement through the hydro logic cycle. The Earth and its various antibiotic and biotin systems are greatly influence by water. Water is essential for life and plays an important role in atmospheric and lithospheric processes . The abundance of water on Earth is a unique feature that distinguishes our "blue planet" from others in the solar system and all the water on the earth forms the hydrosphere. Approximately 70.8 percent of the Earth is covered by water and only 29.2 percent is terra firma. The average depth of the Earth's oceans is 3,794 m (12,447 ft)more than five times the average height of the continents. The mass of the oceans is approximately 1.35 x 1018 tons, or about 1/4400 of the total mass of the Earth.
