The quality of drinking water is a universal health concern. Water is essential for life, but it can and does transmit diseases in countries in all continents - from the poorest to the wealthiest. It can be classified into three types as domestic pollution, industrial and agricultural pollution. These pollution parameters like major cations and anions can be analysed with the help guideline values. Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) refers to the amount of oxygen that would be consumed if all the organics in one litre of water were oxidised by bacteria and protozoa. Chemical Oxygen Demand measures the ability of hot chromic acid solution to oxidize organic matter. This analyzes both biodegradable and non-biodegradable (refractory) organic matter.
