Hunt (James Henry) Leigh (1784-1859), English essayist and poet, 'editor of several influential periodicals and friend of John Keats was born at South gate, Middle sex, on October 19, 1784. He wrote continuously for more than thirty years, as editor and essayist and his chief object seems to have been to make good literature known and appreciated. His Jurenilia was published in 1801. In 1807 he published Critical Essays on the Performers of the London Theaters.
