The Jawahar Lal Nehru Government appointed a press commission in September 1952 on the basis of series of representations given by the newspaper organisations to look into the problems and prospects of the press in India. These press commission under the chairmanship of Justice Rajadhyaksha submitted its report to the Government in 1954. On the basis of the recommendations of the first press commission the 'Press Council of India' was established by an act of parliament in 1965. |
