Structural and Hydraulic design, municipal and industrial water supply, irrigation, power, flood control, navigation, erosion control, pollution control, etc. Ground water: All water occurring beneath the earth’s surface is known as groundwater. Geophysics: As a branch of science it is related with geology in such a way that it concerns with the constitution of the earth and the nature of physical force operating on and within the earth. Sources of ground water: The chief source of ground water is the downward percolation of the rainwater (Meteoric water). Some groundwater may be also derived from Juvenile water: the Juvenile water is the term used for magmatic water. Connate water is that water which has entrapped in sedimentary rocks during their deposition. Yield of a well: Yield of a well is defined as the “amount of water flowing in to the well per unit time”. It is usually expressed in liters / minute or Gallons/hour or sometimes cubic meters / day. The yield of a well depends upon i. Dimension of the well. ii. Location of nearby wells. iii. Porosity of aquifers (pore space) iv. Quantity of water present in the aquifers. v. Rate of pumping water and slope of water table.
