Polymers are known to have good insulating property. Later discoveries shown that polymers also conduct electricity like metals. They are called conducting polymers. Such compounds may have metallic conductivity or can be semiconductors. The biggest advantage is that conducting polymers can be easily processed by dispersion. Generally conducting polymers are not thermoplastics. But, like insulating polymers, they are organic materials. They can offer high electrical conductivity but do not show similar mechanical properties to other commercially available polymers. The electrical properties can be 􀂿 ne-tuned using the methods of organic synthesis and by advanced dispersion techniques.
